Member Spotlight for December 2022 is Mikey Moscaira!
Mikey is one of the hardest working, coachable athletes we have at CrossFit Tyler. She’s been a member of CFT for the past two and a half years and was encouraged to give it a try when a friend spoke highly of the sport of CrossFit and CrossFit Tyler’s community. We may be a little biased, but we also believe our community is pretty spectacular. So what keeps Mikey motivated to work hard and keep showing up? The desire to become a better version of herself. She is too modest to brag about herself, but we aren’t. SHE HAS LOST OVER 25 POUNDS! Success like that comes from consistency in and out of the gym and is a testament to her incredible work ethic. We are inspired by your determination and dedication, Mikey! The workouts, which are different every day, are another reason Mikey keeps showing up. Her favorite movements are deadlifts and squats, but she always has a positive attitude and is willing to try new things. She said, “If I can do it, so can you! Everyone at CrossFit Tyler, especially the coaches, are so encouraging and welcoming.” Member Spotlight for November 2022 is Mandi Sorrells!
Mandi, or “Lil Momma'' to her granddaughter, is an integral part of the 7:30 AM class. One of Mandi’s many gifts is that of encouragement. You can count on her to be the loudest cheerleader in the room, encouraging athletes to push themselves just a little bit more in their workouts. Mandi started CrossFit five years ago after a friend invited her a few times. While she is a little competitive and enjoys that aspect of her training, the community and the friendships she has made are what she loves most about CrossFit Tyler. Like many, Mandi was a little apprehensive when trying CrossFit for the first time. However, she has learned that every workout can be catered to anyone and everyone. Even her favorite types of workouts, which involve running and box jumps, can be modified for all ages and fitness levels. She likes to challenge and improve herself and she said, “CrossFit Tyler is the perfect place to do that.” The biggest transformation occurred when she dialed in her nutrition. Mandi felt that once she was able to get that under control, everything else just fell into place. Her transformation pictures speak for themselves! Her hard work and dedication are inspiring and we are, once again, encouraged by her! Member Spotlight for October 2022 is Colin Jensen!
Colin is 46 years old and has been doing CrossFit for the past five years. Colin decided to give CrossFit a try when a friend from high school, who Colin texts daily, sent him a pair of CrossFit shoes. After coming to the conclusion that CrossFit is the gold standard for achieving fitness, he went searching for a gym. We are blessed that Colin decided CrossFit Tyler would be his home. What inspires us about Colin is his commitment to just show up. Colin currently has a streak of over 600 days in a row of attending classes! When asked what keeps him coming in, especially on days when he doesn't have the motivation, Colin replied, "I've chosen to quit choosing." Colin shows up, even when he doesn't want to, and that dedication is unmatched. The coaching at CrossFit Tyler is what Colin mentions when he encourages people to try it out, possibly for the first time ever. He said, "Coach Amy really digs accommodating people [to help them in their workouts], and Brittany is an elementary school teacher and Scott is a therapist- both of which really convey that it's a nurturing, accepting place." At CrossFit Tyler we view our community as family, and we're glad Colin knows he is home with us. We are proud and inspired by you, Colin Jensen! Member Spotlight for September 2022 is Ms. Nettie!Lynette, also known in the gym as Ms. Nettie, is 62 years old and says that, "Age is just a number!" She has been doing CrossFit for 2 1/2 years and it was her daughter, Kelley, who first encouraged her to try it out. She thought she was too old , but once she started, she realized that CrossFit wasn't anything like she thought. She loves WODs that have weights involved, but especially loves deadlifts (She just pulled a lifetime personal record at 255 lbs!). Everyone has days where they battle with motivation and showing up to the gym, but Ms. Nettie said what helps her is the CrossFit Tyler family, the fun workouts, and seeing results.
"I love my CrossFit family, and as a Minister of Music, I know that God has placed me at CFT not only to get physically fit, but to be available to encourage/support friends through prayer. I am 62 years young and most would be discouraged because of age, but I am here to tell you I am a living testimony that age is just a number! In the experiences I have had the last few years, even if these bodies have limitations, with a diet plan, positive attitude, hard work, determination, and prayer, I have seen amazing physical, mental, and spiritual results! Don't give up or give in, anything is possible! Even with this 62 year old East Texas farm gal. Be blessed!" Ms. Nette, we are blessed and proud of you! 12 Minute AMRAP
