Our athlete for the month of December is 27 year old Regan Hawkins from Whitehouse. She joined CrossFit for just one month. But, four years later, it's the stress reliever she can't go without!

Favorite WOD:  An EMOM with a heavy barbell

Least Favorite WOD: Anything with box jumps
How/why did you start CrossFit?

My brother and I were sitting around the living room complaining how fat we were. We were going to Anytime every night after work and did not see any results.

He had mentioned that a few customers of his were wanting him to give CrossFit a try, so we decided that we would give it one month and here we are, almost four years later.

Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel?

My first WOD was what they call a “baseline” WOD. I’m pretty sure it was a 500m row, 40 air squats, 30 sit-ups, 20 push-ups and 10 pull-ups. It quickly made me realize how out of shape I was!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after)?

My entire body composition has changed. I’ve always been pretty conscious of what I eat because I’m a Type1 Diabetic but I’ve also learned how to eat to get the kind of results I want for my body type.
I look at food and how I eat it in a completely different way. Eating will always be a struggle but it makes it a little easier to make the right choices because I know if I don’t it’ll show in my workout. I’ve also learned to not rely completely on a scale - pictures show so much more.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced from taking on CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

It’s a stress reliever. I can honestly say that there is a noticeable difference in my attitude/demeanor when I have to miss CrossFit for a few days.

There are days for everyone when you just don’t want to work out. How do you handle those?

I just go! That’s my hour every day that I get to “myself.” I know if I don’t show up that I’ll be kicking myself for it.
Please share with us your favorite CrossFit / CFT moments.

Too many to pick! I love my trash talking, dirty 5:30 class. Those people are the reason I look forward to going to CrossFit every day.

Any advice for people just getting started?

You don’t have to be in shape to do CrossFit, just get in there and try it and I promise you’ll love it. Take before and after pictures.

And yes, you will be sore and feel like you can’t move but believe it or not, it will be worse if you don’t workout the next day.

You’re going to feel awkward trying to learn the movements and like everyone is going to laugh at you. We have ALL been there and we aren’t judging.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

Racing and cooking.

What is your superpower?

Planning - I’m a planning and multitasking fool!
