Our athlete for the month of February is 37 year old Laura Adams, originally from Longview. After joining CrossFit in mid-2015, she's now in better shape than she's ever been!
Favorite WOD:  15-20 min EMOM hang power clean, or power clean.  Any WOD with running (only when it’s 70 and above) and deadlifts. 

Least Favorite WOD: Anything when I have to RUN in the COLD... I will complain the whole time!

How/Why did you start CrossFit? 

I worked out for a short period of time with Jennifer Pendergrass and I saw her awesomeness at CrossFit so I contacted her and she told me to check it out. And here I am almost 3 years later.

Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel?

I can’t remember my very first WOD. I had back squats as the first workout I logged in my book and my 3 rep back squat was 105. I love seeing the progress I have made over the years.  Even though I’m 37 I’m in better shape than I ever have been. ​
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after)?

Haha! Pendy (Jennifer Pendergrass) and I were just talking about the moment you're driving and realize, as a woman, you don’t have fat hanging from your arms. It was a proud moment for me. I preface saying that with it did not happen over night. It was almost 3 years of really hard work. But it’s possible for everyone. I’ve also made changes in my diet but it’s an area I’m still working on.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced from taking on CrossFit that were totally unexpected? 

CrossFit has really helped me to not give up when things get tough. I graduate with my Bachelors degree in Business in May and CrossFit has really given me the motivation to keep going no matter how tough it gets. Just like I have to do in the WODS. 

CrossFit has also given me a better marriage.  My husband also works out, so it gives us a common bond.


There are days for everyone when you just don’t want to work out. How do you handle those? 

Well, CrossFit is just part of my day! So, once I drop the boys off at school - even if I don’t feel like going - I know once I get there, I’m going to do the work. So I just drive to the box, go inside, and wait for someone to make me start working out.

Please share with us your favorite CrossFit / CFT moments. 

I’ve had so many great moments at CrossFit! Some of my favorite times are 
Friday Night Lights, and I love when my whole family comes and we can workout together. I have met some great people through CrossFit - our 8:30 & 7:30 am classes have a great group of people.  

Any advice for people just getting started? 

Just get in your car and go! Once your there you will do the work I promise.  Don’t quit keep going back. 

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? 

I love to watch all three of my boys play football. I enjoy gardening, anything outdoors. I like to ski in the winter, and hang out at the lake or beach in the summer. 
What is your superpower?

I don’t really know what my super power is, but surely being the only female in the house with 3 boys and my husband automatically gives me some kind of superpower?!?
