February: Ruger Stocking

This month we shine the spotlight on our CrossFit Kids and Tweens!

Ruger, who swims for the Metro Aquatics team, has lost 30 lbs and shaved 8 seconds off both his 200m freestyle and 100m fly times since starting CrossFit.

Hometown:  Sterling, CO
Age:  15
Started CrossFitting: June 2014

Favorite WOD: Anything with running, rowing, or pull-ups.

Least Favorite WOD: Murph

Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I did all kinds of sports, including swimming, basketball, football, track and wrestling. For the past two years I have started swimming all year long and twice a day in the summer.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? My cousins, Joe and Jaime Sorrells from Rowlett, love CF.

Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel? My first WOD was Annie and I could tell by the looks on people’s faces that they didn’t expect me to do very well. I could see their dismay after I beat some of the older crossfitters.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? Other than obviously becoming about 10 times hotter, I also am mentally more aware after a blood-rushing workout. I also have lost roughly 30lbs.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?  Mainly I have learned that even after I am pushed to exhaustion at CrossFit I can go to a swim practice and do it again in the same day.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFT moments.  My favorite moment was getting a 30lb PR at the Festivus games.

Any advice for people just getting started? Remember that pain is temporary and glory is eternal anytime you’re stuck in a WOD.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I love to swim and read. I am on the Whitehouse High School UIL Social Studies and Debate teams.
