This month, we celebrate a whole CrossFit Tyler family!
Martha (46) & Guillermo (48) were born and raised in Uruapan, Michoacan Mexico. Their children, Abi (25) and David (23) were born and raised in Sacramento, CA.
Son David was the first to start CrossFitting 3 years ago. Then after about a year and a half of hearing about
how great it was, Guillermo (affetionately known as G-MO by all) joined up. Abi quickly followed suit, and after a lot of persuading, Martha completed the CrossFit family about a year ago.
GMO- Anything with running, pull-ups or squats
Abi- Anything with burpees or air squats; I LOVE to SQUAT, any and all forms of it
Martha- Anything that requires endurance and weights
Least Favorite WODs:
GMO- WODs with back extensions
Abi- I do NOT like wall balls. AND I’m terrified of heights so I’m still scared of the box... so no box
jumps for me any time soon.
Martha- Anything that requires holding a heavy bar over my head
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit?
David wouldn’t stop talking about it, and telling us how much we could improve our individual fitness
levels if we started doing it.
After Abi, Gmo and David all joined CrossFit, and it was all they talked about during our meal
time, so it wasn’t an option anymore. [Martha] had to be part of the conversation.
Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel?
GMO- burpees, pull ups and ?
Abi- I don’t remember my very first WOD, but I do have a most memorable WOD which was one of
the first that I did. It was at the old box & we did 400m burpee broad jumps. Wow, I tore up my hands! I
remember seeing people bandage their hands up, but I was new and I had no idea why they were
doing that. After I was done, I felt like such a champ, bloodied hands and all.
Martha- My first day was a strength day.
Any advice for people just getting started?
Abi- I would just say it will be a lot of fun. You might look at the WOD and think there is no way you
can do that, but don’t give up. We have great coaches and they will modify the WOD so you can do it
and so that you can still beastmode your workout.
Martha- Be clear on why you are joining CrossFit, share your goals, and ask for help
