How/Why did you start CrossFit?
I spent most of my life either playing some kind of a sport or working out in a gym. Over the last few years, life got in the way and I had fallen off of that path. I had gained a lot of lazy weight and wasn't eating right.
A close friend of mine suggested I join him when he started back in to CrossFit. He guaranteed me results as long as I took it seriously. I knew I needed that structure back in my life and I wanted to get my fitness back in order before it was too late.
Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel?
HAHA...my first WOD was Fran. Need I say more? I literally thought I was going to die. I even called my wife on the way home and told her that if I wasn't there in 10 minutes to call the police.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after)?
I have lost about 20 pounds (give or take) and dropped two pants sizes. I feel a lot better and have more energy throughout the day. I still hurt most of the time, but it's a different hurt. Not an inactive, overweight, lower back and joints hurt; it's a sore hurt.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced from taking on CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
I feel guilty when I don't go and miss a workout. I watch what I eat and when I eat it. I feel better about how I look.
There are days for everyone when you just don’t want to work out. How do you handle those?
I think we all have that CrossFit love/hate relationship. But I always remind myself that you won't get any better by laying in bed. And that extra hour of sleep doesn't make that much of a difference. Beat the sun up and you've already accomplished something that day.
Please share with us your favorite CrossFit / CFT moments.
It's just been great getting to meet new people and make new friends. I definitely wouldn't do any of these workouts alone. It's nice having a group that you look forward to seeing every morning and competing with. Misery loves company.
Any advice for people just getting started?
Just don't quit. The first couple months are the hardest. You don't see any results right away and you're always feeling like you're not any good at it. Sometimes you'll come in last and that's alright. Use that as motivation to come the next day and get better.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I'm in sales, that takes a lot of my time. But I love God and I love my family. Always first and second in my life.
What is your superpower?
I wouldn't say that I have one. [We guess that makes "humility" your superpower, eh JC?]
