I heard about it from a friend and thought it was interesting because it was extreme. Once I tried it, I got addicted to the culture.
Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel?
I got matched up with Zach Nichols on Overhead Squat day. I think he kept the weight at about 55 lbs so we could focus on my form. Here was a guy who could have overhead squatted ME and he scaled it for my benefit.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?
I am definitely stronger than I have ever been and leaner than I have been in 20 years. It is awesome! I never thought at 49 I would be practicing my handstand pushups.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
It is amazing how it helps mentally. It is so “in the moment”. Regardless of what is going on with the rest of my world, for that hour, I am just focused on surviving to the end of the WOD.
There are days for everyone when you just don’t want to work out. How do you handle those?
Wait, what? We have a choice?? I just consider it one of those big rocks that you put in the cart first.
Please share with us your favorite CrossFit / CFT moments.
Too many to count, but I really liked everyone wearing eye patches the first WOD after I came back from my eye surgery last year.
Any advice for people just getting started?
Commit to it! You learn to enjoy being sore.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I need a 12 step program to help with my snowboard addiction. I golf, work on the house, and invest time in the boys. I enjoy my work, so I do a lot of that also. My youngest son graduates this year, so next year is all about travel!
What is your superpower?
I fly! I am a pilot, but it would be a lot cheaper if I just had a set of wings.
