How were you first exposed to CrossFit?
Brian Boyd’s constant nagging lol. He just wouldn’t let up until I at least gave it a try. Consequently, that’s how I got my wife to try it too. hahaha
Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel?
My very first try at CrossFit was a modified “Cindy” that Nevin put me through. 5 minutes instead of 20. I thought I was going to die right there on the mat… It let me know quickly just how out of shape I truly was.
I started losing weight and having to buy new, smaller clothes. I noticed improvement in my times and weights for my WODs. I’ve lost around 40 lbs so far but packed on a lot of muscle. That just gives me more motivation to keep going.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that
were totally unexpected?
First change I noticed was that my kids got more interested in working out and eating right. I guess that whole setting the example thing really works ;-) . I also noticed that I could get outside and run and play with the kids. Being 355 lbs didn’t help me to get out there most days. Another thing I noticed was how the community really comes together to help when needed. I’ve been blessed to meet many new friends there and some have helped our family so much. We are extremely grateful and it’s a great thing to be a part of.
Any advice for people just getting started?
Just don’t stop. I’ve tried just about everything you can to lose weight and lead a healthier lifestyle. Crossfit, by far, has been the best decision I ever made. The support system that comes along with being a part of a great box like CFT is truly priceless. Get in there, do the work and keep pushing yourself and there is no limit to the results you can achieve.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
Other than my family, my two greatest passions are singing karaoke and Dallas Cowboys football!!! I also put together a monthly flag ride to support our country. There is usually a ride once a month where we meet and cruise Broadway with our American and Texas flags flying high from our vehicles as a reminder that we still live in the greatest state in the greatest country in the world!!!
